Author Reading with UTSC Writer-in-Residence Thea Lim In-Person

The UTSC Library is pleased to join the UTSC English Department in welcoming Thea Lim as our Writer-in-Residence for 2024.
Please join us for lunch on Thursday, February 1st, 2024 in HW305 for a reading with the author and a discussion of her work and creative practice.

Thea Lim is the author of An Ocean of Minutes, which was a finalist for multiple national and international prizes, translated into three languages, and optioned for television. Her writing has been published in Granta, The Nation, The Paris Review, Best Canadian Stories, The Guardian, The Globe and Mail, Guernica, and others. She holds an MFA from the University of Houston. She’s always delighted to be entrusted with the words of other writers, whether as a book critic, a story consultant for film and television, as creative writing faculty at many schools including the University of Toronto, Sheridan College, and the Flying Books School of Reading and Writing, as a mentor at Diaspora Dialogues, the Writers Union of Canada, and the University of Guelph, or as an arts council jury member. She was a juror for the 2022 Governor General’s Fiction Prize and the 2023 Trillium Book Award. She has served as the Barker Fairley Distinguished Visitor at University College, and as a Toronto Public Library writer-in-residence. She grew up in Singapore and now lives with her family in Toronto, on the territory of the Mississaugas of the Credit, the Anishnabeg, the Chippewa, the Haudenosaunee and the Wendat.
