The Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (FIPPA): Balancing Access, Confidentiality and Privacy In-Person

This workshop will provide students with a technical and a practical understanding of FIPPA. Students will learn how to “read” FIPPA, how to process an FOI request, and how to determine if records can, cannot or must be disclosed by an institution (the records keeper) in response to an FOI request. Students will then be divided into groups, given an FOI request to process, along with mock records, and will be asked to decide which records, or portions of records can be disclosed to the person who made the FOI request. Groups results will be compared and discussed by the class as whole.

Should you fail to withdraw 48+ hours in advance, thereby preventing your colleagues on the waitlist from filling in your spot, your library account will be charged $10 per missed workshop.  Please note, it is your responsibility to sign next to your name on the attendance sheet for each workshop session.  A blank signature spot will result in a penalty charge.
