Citation Practice as a Springboard: Beyond Keyword Searching Online

So you’ve got the keywords thing down, but what else can you do to further enhance your searching? Are you worried that important sources are somehow slipping through the cracks? Look no further than the reference list! Exploring citations can be a powerful strategy that generates alternative pathways to relevant literature. In this session, we will discuss using the technique of cited reference searching to discover new scholarship.

In addition, examining citation practices sheds light on whose voices are heard within your scholarly discourse. How do we elevate or suppress the work of scholars through our bibliographies? Do citation counts help reproduce existing disparities in scholarly representation? We’ll reflect together and provide supporting resources for future reading.
