This workshop is an introduction to the SPARQL query language within the Wikidata Query Service (WQS). SPARQL provides users with vocabulary to define variables that can then be used to pose highly sophisticated queries within a database of linked open data - in this case, Wikidata. In this workshop, participants will use the Wikidata Query Service (WQS) interface to define the variables they want to analyze in Wikidata, refine results by adding targeted filters, and learn how to represent the results in forms such as tables, graphs, and timelines/maps (if applicable). This workshop presumes participants have a basic understanding of WikiData, though extensive knowledge is not required. Audience: Open Learning Outcomes Understand what a query language is and what SPQRQL is. Identify the anatomy of a query and how to build a query. Build a SPARQL query in Wikidata Query Service (WQS). Define variables and apply filters Represent query results in various formats (tables, graphs, etc.)
