Visualizing Network Data In-Person

This workshop is part of the Digital Scholarship Unit's Fun Data Fridays Series.
These events are designed with an hour-long introduction presentation on the topic led by U of T Scarborough Librarian, followed by a peer-to-peer discussion and collaborative learning session. This program is designed to be a forum for how data is used pervasively across all disciplines and troubleshoot your data questions. Our goal is to work together to appreciate the unique issues and opportunities brought forth when discussing data cross-disciplinarily.

About Visualizing Network Data

Gephi is an open-source network visualization platform. Created with the idea to be the Photoshop of network visualization, it combines a rich set of built-in functionalities, and a friendly user interface aggregated around the visualization window. Our approach is to provide a powerful visual tool with a smooth learning curve and an active open-source community supporting the project.

Learning Outcomes

  • Recognize networks and situations that call for network visualization and analysis
  • Use appropriate terms to describe networks
  • Understand network data formats, and format data for use in Gephi
  • Use Gephi to load, visualize, analyze, and publish network graphs
