Excel: Beyond the Basics In-Person
- What: In this 2 hour hands-on workshop, you will gain a deeper understanding of the uses and types of data that can be manipulated in Excel, an extremely popular spreadsheet software. Through practical exercises using real world data from the Toronto Transit Commission (TTC), you will learn important terminology and software features, and gain a better understanding of Excel’s built-in methods for data manipulation and cleaning, as well as analysis and visualization
- Why: Excel is a popular spreadsheet software that allows you to organize, modify and analyze your data. It remains one of the most widely used softwares for data analytics. A deeper understanding of Excel will help you better navigate the tool to work with your data sets, in the classroom and beyond.
- Software: Excel is freely available for download for University of Toronto staff, faculty and students. We will be using Windows machines which already have Excel installed, and so no software setup is required.
- Note: This workshop works with Excel for Windows. If you are using Excel for Mac on your personal device, you may notice that availability and location of some features differ. However, the skills learned in this workshop are still very much transferable!
- Who: This workshop assumes you have used Excel before at a basic level, but haven’t explored all it has to offer. There are no prerequisites or assumptions of knowledge of math, statistics, or programming!
- When: Wednesday, February 5th 2025, 2-4:00pm
- Where: Electronic classroom on the 4th floor of Robarts Library (room 4033)
- How: This is a 2 hour in-person workshop, consisting of a series of short explanations and demonstrations. There will be plenty of opportunities to ask any questions and practice as we go! There will be one short break in the middle of the workshop.
