Black Histories Wikipedia Edit-a-thon: Black Health Edition In-Person
Join us at Black Histories Wikipedia Edit-a-thon: Black Health Edition to celebrate Black History Month with the U of T Libraries! The goal of this Edit-a-thon is to create and update Wikipedia pages for individuals in health sciences belonging to the Black community, in order to highlight their scientific research, role in health policy, and/or science communication, as well as focusing on underrepresented topics in Black Health.
(No previous Wikipedia editing experience? Beginners are welcome!)
Food, snacks, and refreshments will be served.

EVENT OVERVIEW:
- 4:45 pm - Doors open
- 5:00 – 5:30 pm - Greetings by Dr. Roberta Timothy, Amal Hussien, Vincci Lui (Alice Moulton Room - 2nd flr)
- 5:30-6:15 - Part A: Wikipedia Edit-a-thon 101 (Instruction Lab/Alice Moulton Room - 2nd flr)
- 6:15-7:30pm - Part B: Wikipedia Edit-a-thon Open editing session (Instruction Lab/Alice Moulton Room - 2nd flr)
Our event will kick off with greetings from Dr. Roberta Timothy (Assistant Professor, University of Toronto, Dalla Lana School of Public Health, Black Health Lead & Program Director of the first Master of Public Health in Black Health), Amal Hussien (Librarian, U of T Libraries) and Vincci Lui (Librarian, U of T Libraries), and the launch of a new Black Health & Pedagogy Research Guide.
We’ll then teach you how to edit Wikipedia in a short crash course and invite you to edit Wikipedia together in an open editing session.
We will provide a list of Wikipedia pages with a focus on topics and individuals in Black Health (as Wikipedia’s racial bias and racism is well-documented), but we welcome all edit-a-thon attendees to create and/or update any page they are interested in.
All students/staff/faculty/alumni of the University of Toronto community, as well as from Toronto Metropolitan University, and York University are invited to join.
You’re welcome to bring your own laptop, but a limited number of computers will also be available.
This event is brought to you by the U of T Libraries and the Dalla Lana School of Public Health (MPH in Black Health). It is part of the larger Black Histories Wikipedia Edit-a-thon 2025 series organized by library staff and students at Toronto Metropolitan University, Toronto Public Library, University of Toronto and York University.
