Audience: University of Toronto upper-level undergraduate and graduate students in the health/life sciences

By the end of this interactive workshop participants will be able to:

1. Identify and explain similarities and differences between types of AI (e.g., LLM chatbots, AI search engines, academic AI tools)
2. Compare the outputs of AI academic search engines with traditional tools to determine their value and validity 
3. Verify the authenticity and faithfulness of citations provided in AI-generated summaries 
4. Practice searching in AI academic search engines including UTL licensed tools (ScopusAI and Web of Science AI Assistant) and online tools (Undermind.ai and Elicit.com)

Presenter: 

Erica Nekolaichuk, MA, MLIS, is the rehabilitation and kinesiology librarian with the Gerstein Science Information Centre. Prior to arriving at Gerstein, Erica worked in continuing medical education and as a solo hospital librarian at the Cross Cancer Institute in Edmonton, Alberta. Through her experience in hospital and academic health science libraries, she has been involved in a number of systematic and scoping reviews and has provided expert searching and systematic review training for clinicians, students, and faculty. Her current research is investigating the performance of AI academic search engines.
