CANCELLED - Introduction to Visualizing Relationships Using Gephi In-Person

What: Learn to use a free, open-source, point-and-click visualization and analysis tool, Gephi, to visualize relationships in your research. Examples of relationships include relationships between characters in literary works, how authors cite each other in a particular discipline, or how people interact on social media.
Why: Learning network visualization and analysis skills and tools will help you to gain insights into how your research data is connected and then communicate your findings to others.
Software: Gephi is free to use.
Who: This workshop is designed for those new to Gephi and network visualization or analysis. Skills gained can help participants who want to visualize relationships in their qualitative data from any discipline: Humanities, Social Sciences, or Sciences. There are no prerequisites or assumptions of knowledge of statistics or programming.
When: Tuesday, November 4, 2025, 10am to 12:30pm
Where: Electronic classroom on the 4th floor of Robarts Library (room 4033)
How: This is a 2.5-hour in-person workshop, consisting of a short lecture and then a series of demonstrations, which you can follow along with or just watch, interspersed with self-paced activities. For our examples, we will be starting with smaller networks, looking at relationships between characters in the play Romeo and Juliet, and movie actors that work together on the same films. There will be one 10-minute break in the middle.
