How To Increase Integrity and Trust in Research Journals: The Publication Facts Label

How To Increase Integrity and Trust in Research Journals: The Publication Facts Label In-Person

The Scholarly Communications & Copyright Office at the University of Toronto Libraries is pleased to welcome John Willinsky, Khosla Family Professor Emeritus, Stanford University, to deliver a session entitled: How To Increase Integrity and Trust in Research Journals: The Publication Facts Label.

This session introduces to journal editors, librarians, researchers, and students, the Publication Facts Label. The Label draws on years of research and development to provide means of improving journal integrity and encouraging public trust in research publications. The session will demonstrate how the Label’s presentation of relevant data on research articles and journals addresses the current integrity crisis and supports a greater global integration of knowledge. It will set out how journals using Open Journal Systems (OJS) can now employ the label, while describing efforts to make it an industry standard for journals worldwide and to have it contribute to high school courses on information literacy.

Willinsky is the founder of the Public Knowledge Project, creator of OJS, the world's most widely used journal publishing platform, and the author of a dozen books, including most recently the open access Copyright's Broken Promise: How to Restore the Law’s Ability to Promote the Progress of Science (MIT Press, 2023).
