Cultivating Hope Through Critically Informed Contemplative Pedagogy In-Person
A collaboration between The Centre for Teaching and Learning, UTSC, Library UTSC, Library UTM
Faculty, librarians and staff are invited to an experiential day of learning about how to integrate contemplative pedagogy into teaching and learning spaces, team environments and personal practice. Contemplative pedagogy offers grounding, resilience, and practical tools for building community in challenging times and can support faculty, librarians, staff, and teams as they navigate stress, uncertainty, AI‑related anxiety, and ongoing global pressures. We will draw on neuroscience, Buddhist traditions, eastern spirituality, secular practices, anti-racist pedagogy, as well as empirical research to share contemplative practices in accessible format.
These practices will help participants to:
- Build focus and self-awareness
- Lean into and learn from discomfort to cultivate “brave spaces”
- Engaging in mindful conversation through deep listening
- Build hope, through strengthening self-compassion and compassion for others
- Learn to stay grounded in our bodies when we are emotionally activated
