Comparing NVivo vs MAXQDA In-Person

  • What: As an NVivo user, come see what the similarities and differences are between NVivo and MAXQDA, two qualitative data management and analysis tools.
  • Why: Learning how they compare will allow you to make an informed choice about which tool would be best for your research.
  • Software: This is not a hands-on workshop, but if you want to explore these tools on your own, faculty, staff, and students at the University of Toronto can get a free license key for both NVivo and MAXQDA. You can also use both tools in the Robarts Library 4th floor computer lab and the Map & Data Library (MDL) data lab on the 5th floor.
  • Who: This workshop is primarily designed for NVivo users who are new to MAXQDA.
  • When: Monday, Sept. 28, 2026, 2-4pm
  • Where: MDL Data Lab, 5th floor of Robarts Library (Room 5031)
  • How: This is a 2-hour in-person session, consisting of lecture and demonstrations, highlighting key similarities and differences between the two tools. There will be ample time for questions. Note that this is NOT a hands-on workshop. If you would like hands-on training on using either tool, come to our other NVivo and MAXQDA workshops.

  • Code of Conduct: Map & Data Library (MDL) workshops are a welcoming and inclusive environment for learning. To learn more, check out our Code of Conduct.
  • Accessibility: The MDL is committed to making our workshops accessible to everyone. If you require an accommodation to fully participate in the workshop, please contact Kelly Schultz (kelly.schultz@utoronto.ca) to discuss options.
